Why Sensory Pods?
Sensory pods, or rooms, have been around for more than 50 years, but because of the increasing prevalence of autism, sensory rooms have taken on a new urgency and have become a popular solution.
Sensory rooms are not only for autism. These sensory spaces serve as a safe place for anyone who needs an environment to destress.
What are sensory issues?
Sensory issues refer to a spectrum of disabilities or conditions that can occur naturally or result from trauma. They can include but are not limited to:
- Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD)
- Sensory Processing Sensitivity (SPS)
- ADHD & ADD
Quite simply, people (often children) with sensory issues have difficulty processing information taken in via their senses. Within those people, there is a marked aversion to stimuli that trigger the sense—sound, touch, taste, light, smell. For them, it’s challenging to receive and respond to information from their senses.
